white bird; pink-orange beak that has a keel-like structure on it in breeding
season; large throat pouch; black half of wings seen in flight

and water areas

in northwest US and into Canada; winters along extreme southern coast of
US and into Mexico

Feeding Habits
- The White Pelican usually feeds
in cooperative groups. The group moves together, often synchronously,
making prey easier to catch by herding fish toward shallow water. The
pelican dips its open bill in the water and catches fish in its large pouch.
